Sri Sri Sri Maa Kanak Durga Gadi Temple, Jharsuguda
Jharsuguda is one of the most prosperous mining and industrial district in Odisha. The Jharsuguda district, which is rich in history and tradition, has Ashtachandi peetha. They are Goddess Padmasini Temple of Padampur (Pujharipalli), Goddess Sri Ramchandi cave of Rampur (Brajrajnagar), Goddess Bhubaneswari Temple of Kolabira, Goddess Bhattarika of Kumbharabandh, Debi peeth (shrines) of Dhuturagarh, Goddess Banda Durga of kuarmal, goddess kalika Temple of Chandarpur and sri Kanak Durga Temple of jharsuguda.

One of the most eminent Shakti Peetha amid the atop revealed Ashtachandi Peetha is the Kanak Durga Temple positioned on the marge of the main Road near the Jharsuguda Railway Station. Kanak Durga temple, goddess of power, wealth and generosity and presiding deity of Jharsuguda, is thronged by hundreds of visitors for worship during the "Navarathri" festival which is celebrated with Religious fervor and festivity.
History
An examination of the Kanak Durga temple revealed that the temple was established by the late Bishwanath Maharana before the temple was constructed. The devotee of the goddess Sri Kanak Durga was born in Shankhari Sahi, an unknown village in the Biridi block of the Cuttack district.
From early Childhood, he was involved in the culinary profession. When he was young,he left his village and worked as a carpenter for a few years in Tata, an industrial city in Jharkhand. Then he arrived in Jharsuguda for livelihood, rented a wooden cabin on the main road side near the railway station in Jharsuguda town and started carpentry. He brought a photo frame of Goddess Durga with him and put it in a wooden cabin and started worshiping Goddess. The worship of the earthen goddess Durga was organized in a joint effort of the then gentlemen and the local railway staff of jharsuguda City. In 1956, for the first time in Jharsuguda, the Sharadiya Durga Puja (Autumn Durga worship) was started by the 'Odia community' by constructing a special puja mandap (Worship pavilion). Due to the disagreement among the organizers of the Sharadiya Durga Puja, Bishwanath Maharana organized a special puja mandapa in the vicinity of his wooden cabin area that year and organized the Sharadiya Durga Puja. Bishwanath Maharana started worshiping by making clay idols of Shri Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati from the Bengali artists of Calcutta. But instead of immerse the idols on the Vijayadasami ( The tenth day in the Hindu calender month of Ashvin or Kartika) he decided to worship the goddess Kanak Durga in the vicinity of his wooden cabin regularly as the presiding deity. As a result, worship of the goddess Durga began at the shrine in 1959.
Biswanath Maharana was staying in Jharsuguda severed ties with his family and relatives to be a Supreme devotee of the goddess. He kept Only with his eldest brother's son Prahlad as a foster son and worshiped the goddess Kanak Durga located in the premises of the wooden cabin. He passed away after 18 long years of worshiping the goddess. Founder Bishwanath Maharana bought the wooden cabin during his lifetime from the owner. But after his death, a merchant tactically bought the wooden cabin from his foster son, and Kanak Durga had been abandoned for six long months as a result of the lock away the wooden cabin. But the incident caused a great deal of controversy among local intellectuals.
The incident was reported to the police at the initiative of a group of people who were assisting Biswanath Maharana for the Sharadiya Durga puja . As result of the police intervention, the wooden cabin was unlocked and the regular service of the goddess Sri Kanak Durga was arranged and the Sharadiya Durga Puja was held at the shrine every year as before.

Construction
In 1906, a small temple was built. In the sanctum sanctorum of the Sri Kanak Durga temple, the goddess is sitting on Lion with golden ornaments. the south side of Sri Kanak Durga are the deities Shri Mahadev, Goddess Lakshmi and Shri Ganesha and on the left are the goddess Saraswati and the God Sri Karthikiya. After passing through the Lion Gate of the temple, the Lord Hanuman is visible at the forefront. Idols of Nine forms of the mother such as Maa Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Skandhamata, Katyayani, Kalaratri, Mahagauri and Siddhidatri along with Hindu Trinity Lord Brahma,Bishnu and Maheswar have been built in front of temple roof.
Worship and Festival
Shri Kanak Durga, the supreme deity of this Shakti Peetha, is very direct and full of boundless devotion and faith of the people. Many devotees, men and women, come to the temple every day to worship the goddess.
Every Tuesday evening there is a strong crowd at the temple of the Goddess. The interior of the temple is decorated by designing glass, which has played a key role in doubling the grandeur of the temple. Prasad(food) is distributed to devotees at the shrine every Tuesday.
According to the festival date, During βAshwin Shukla pakhayaβ (Brightening moon period of September and October) and the βChaitra Shukla pakhaya ( Brightening moon period of March and April) the worship festival of the goddess Sri Kanak Durga performed in the Navratri ritual. However, before the start of the Saradiya Durga Puja , the new form and decoration of Sri Kanak Durga is completed. Many devotees and seekers have achieved Satisfaction due to the immense mercy and blessings of the presiding deity, Shri Kanak Durga . So, people also come to the goddess for mental and emotional relief.The glory of Goddess Sri Kanak Durga is immense. Just as she blesses a dissatisfied helpless prayer, there is an example of punishing a sinner who has sinned in pride and arrogance.

As Kanak Durga Temple is located inside the jharsuguda town, you can easily Reach this shrine on foot. This Holy place is within walking distance which is about 300 meters and 50 meters from jharsuguda bus stand and Railway station Respectively. Once visit the temple, avail the blessings of Mother.
